My Grandad "Guillermo Penedo" was the captain of this boat, the photo that would be the model for my favourite painting was taken on the last day of him leaving for the usual trip.

I hadn't known about the painting until my early adult life and the timing couldn't have been better, Nanny always has a way of knowing where and when.

• After telling me of its whereabouts, which was of course the loft we set after getting it down, a true hidden family gem and I fell in love with it right away.

My Nanny commissioned "Roy Hodds" in the mid 70's to recreate the picture in his impressionist style but requested the main subject to be "true to life" and this was definitely achieved.

• At the time of finding the painting I was then developing my scope for stock and future avenues, paintings were already top of list, especially impressionist works so it fuelled the fire perfectly.

A couple days later (Probably the same night.) I was researching the artist, discovering he lived just down the road some years back and a lot of people knew him for his art locally.

I already had the idea of collecting his works but one or two search's led to an individual who had purchased a large body of his paintings from the family.

Within five minutes I was set on obtaining and preserving his works in hopes to one day display them all together so I arranged to meet with the collector.

• It was a great introduction into the art world, we shared ideas and a passion for the art, this was all new to me so the family painting had really opened some doors.

The majority of the discussed collection is now with me and I'm always looking to expand on it.

My sole intention is to reinstate the passion in my generation for the older arts and preservation of history and heritage.
